DJ Shiny Fabric makes his debut at Greenlight Social Dallas for his 102 Graduation performance.

Let’s kick things off—tell us a little bit about yourself! What’s your name, when did you graduate from DJ School Dallas, and where are you based now?

My name is Dan, AKA Shiny Fabric. I graduated from the DJ School Dallas October 2023 at Green Light Social. Right now I'm in Denton, TX.

How did you catch the DJ bug? What first got you hooked on DJing, and what made you decide to join DJ School Dallas? We’d love to hear how your journey started!

I started producing electronic music when I was 14 years old purely out of spite - This girl told me that EDM took no talent and anyone could produce it in 5 minutes - so I wanted to prove her wrong. Once I started teaching myself to produce, I quickly discovered how much I loved it and kept going. There's no better feeling than watching your friends lose their minds in the car when you play a new song you made. Fast forward a few years and I bought my first controller during quarantine and persisted to master my craft. In June 2023 I won a raffle for a semester course at the DJ School Dallas, which ended up being one of the greatest things to happen to me. DJ Titan and DJ Souljah are incredible instructors and they helped me unlock my inner potential. They gave me real world examples and prepared me for any scenarios that could happen behind the decks.

What’s one thing you’ll never forget about your time at DJ School Dallas? Was there a standout moment or something about the course that really stuck with you? Tell us what made your experience special.

I'll never forget the techniques that I learned such as swapping low pass filters as well as using different effects for creative transitions.

Where have your turntables taken you? Share some of the places and venues where you’ve had the chance to spin. What were those gigs like?

I've played Green Light Social, Green Elephant, Select Start Arcade, Luxor Hookah Lounge, Magnum, and various parties.

Had any unforgettable gigs lately? If you’ve played at events or venues, tell us about your favorite one! What made it so memorable? And if you haven’t played out yet, how do you enjoy DJing for yourself or close friends?

So Far, my favorite gig was my DJ School Dallas graduation set. Watching so many random people dance to my original music, as well as seeing my own homemade visuals on the screen behind me - not to mention rapping at the end - was beyond surreal.

How would you describe your DJ style? What’s the vibe of your sets? Do you have a signature sound or a unique way of mixing that makes your performances stand out?

I'm a chameleon when it comes to DJ'ing, adaptable for any vibe or occasion. Although the best way to describe my signature style would be "Gay as hell but hard as hell".

Who’s inspiring your sets right now? Tell us about some of your favorite artists or genres to mix. What gets you excited when you’re behind the decks?

Lady Gaga, Porter Robinson, Flume, Boys Noize, charli xcx, Madeon, Zeds Dead & Skrillex just to name a few. I can get into any kinda genre, but hard bass music is my favorite. You can never have too many pop bangers thrown in as well.

Where do you dig for your tracks? Whether it’s vinyl shops, online platforms, or secret spots, where do you discover the new music you add to your sets?

I usually get most of my tracks through SoundCloud. You can find the most insane free music if you dig hard enough. Bandcamp is also super underrated because you can download the files however you want. Another good way to find music is listening to other DJ sets and going through their track lists. That can send you down a crazy rabbit hole!

What are your go-to spots in Dallas? Where do you love to hang out or get inspired in the city? Share a few of your favorite local spots with us!

Green Light Social, It'll Do Club, & Stereo Live.

What advice would you give to a new DJ just starting out? Looking back, what’s one piece of advice you’d share with someone thinking about learning to DJ or joining DJ School Dallas? What would you say to your past self?

Don't get discouraged if you can't master it immediately. Just like learning to play an instrument, DJ'ing takes lots of time and practice, so keep going, you'll get better eventually. It never hurts to be versatile, so try mixing genres outside your comfort zone, it can really help your skills. Most of all, remember to have fun!!!

Tell us something fun about yourself! What’s something we might be surprised to learn about you? This is your chance to share a fun fact or a quirky detail!

On top of producing music and DJ'ing, I'm also a filmmaker who runs a YouTube channel where I talk about roller coasters and theme parks. (Shockwave Dan) if you wanna check it out. I've posted a bunch of full DJ sets there too!

Anything else you’d like to share with the DJ School Dallas fam? If there’s anything else you’d like to add or shout out, now’s the time! We’re all ears.

Check out my music (Shiny Fabric) on all the streaming services!!!
